Nuala closed the file that was sitting on her desk and glanced over at the clock. Almost quitting time, she thought to herself. She didn't have any open cases, just a few that had been waiting for her return. She hated paperwork, but it was a necessary evil. Taking a deep breath, she looked at the clock again. She was actually a little nervous about going out for coffee with Don.
Of course, she knew they were just going as friends, but still, it was her first time hanging out with a friend after Oliver's death. It's just two friends going out for coffee, she reminded herself as she got up from her desk. Waving to some of the other detectives as she left, she made her way to the front desk. Spotting Flack, she leaned against his desk. "Hey there Mr. Receptionist, think I can steal ya?"

Don raised an eyebrow at Nuala's Mr Receptionist remark. "Please do. This place is driving me crazy. I need to get my shield back or I will go bonkers." Don moved around from behind the desk and waved to the night sergaent and wished him a good night.
"Where would the lovely lady like to go for coffee? You pick the place and it's my treat." Don could tell that Nuala was a bit nervous about going out for coffee with him. He understood. She had just lost someone who she was really close to. And it was a bitackward for Don because he and Naula dated for awhile before she hooked up with Oliver.
"We're off, my lady. Your steed or mine? " Don could be so charming when he put his mind to it. The two of them walked slowly to the NYPD parking lot.

"I have a feeling you'll get it back soon enough. Mac doesn't stay upset too long." At least she hoped Mac wouldn't stay upset too long, the force needed all their good detectives with the new perp on the loose.
Blushing a bright red, Nuala looked at the ground. "Doesn't matter much to me. Anywhere the coffee is good..." She stopped for a moment. "Which is pretty much anywhere but here." She let out a nervous laugh, hoping Don wouldn't mind. She tried to reassure herself that it would be like when they had originally dated, even though it wasn't that long.
"Doesn't matter to me. There's a coffee place down the street, why don't we just take a stroll down there? It's a beautiful night out tonight." She suggested, looking over at him. A small breeze caused her bangs to dance slightly across her face.

Don smiled. He was glad to see the old Nuala start to come back, even a little. "Sounds perfect. A perfect ending to a brutal day at the desk. Two good friends walking and talking remembering old times."
Don didn't want to let it slip that he hadn't dated anybody steadily since he went out with Nuala th last time. He just couldn't fine anyone that he cared for for more then one night.
"Awwww you are blushing. That is good. " Don leaned in closer to Nuala. Lifting her chin gently with his index finger. He wanted to kiss her, but he also didn't want to rush things. He cared for Nuala more then that.
"It is a beautiful night. and the company is perfect. The couple walked to the coffee shop.

"Aw the poor thing, such a stressful job," She teased, looking over at him before looking up at the sky. It was New York, but you could still see some stars. "Yes, a wonderful ending."
His comment about her blushing caused her to blush even more, turning cherry red. He could always make her blush. Him and Oliver. Something she often growled at them for. "You're having fun making me blush aren't you?" She muttered, sticking out her tongue at him. When his finger touched her chin, she felt a small shiver run up her spine.
"I couldn't ask for better company." She said softly as they approached the coffee shop. It looked fairly empty, except for the odd night owl getting their caffeine fix.

Don looked at Nuala with his famous puppy dog eyes. "Yes, it is and no one appreiates it. " Don was teasing Nuala. Playing one of the little games that they used to play together. "It is a beautiful night. Yes, I am." Don smiled as he answered her question about making her blush. "I have the best company in the city, my sweet lady."
Don was glad that the coffee shop wasn't too busy. He prefere it that way. It would be more like they were the only two there. "Who-who" Don teased when Nuala mentioned that they were the two night in the place.Nuala had always made Don feel at ease. That was one of the many things that he loved about her. and one of the many things he missed when she met Oliver.

"Aw, so under appreciated." She teased back, taking his arm. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, I appreciate you." She grinned. At his mention that he in enjoyed making her blush, she cast him a mock glare. "I'm glad you're enjoying it." She laughed.
Raising her eyebrow at his owl noises, she laughed again. "Don't quit your day job Don." She teased, as they got to the door of the coffee shop. "It feels good to get out of the house and office for once." She sighed, feeling perfectly comfortable with Don. Had it been anyone else, it would have been awkward, but because she knew Don, and they had such a great relationship, she felt like herself.

"Thank you. I'm glad somebody knows how rough the desk can be." Don felt completely at ease with Nuala. It had been like they were picking up their relationship where it had left off. And Don liked that. The couple walked to a table in the corner and Don held out the chair for Nuala. Then he sat down him self. The waitres came over with two menus. " So what do you feel like tonight? "
Don smiled when he made Nuala smile. That was good. "Oh come on. I wasn't that bad, was I? It does feel good to be out and have some fun with a good friend. " Don wanted to kiss Nuala, but he knew that it was too early and he didn'twant to ruin the friendship that they had just started again.

"No one answers phones like you do." Nuala laughed. She sat down, touched by his chivalrous actions. "Let it never be said that chivalry is dead." She said, smiling as the waitress brought them menus. Opening the menu, she looked up at him. "I'm not sure, but I am hungry. I missed dinner tonight." She said sheepishly, pretty sure she'd catch hell from Don for skipping dinner.
"An owl you aren't." She chuckled. "Yes, it does feel good. Good friends are hard to find sometimes, but I think I snagged the best." She grinned, casting her eyes back to the menu, hoping to hide some of the blush that was returning to her cheeks. She kept feeling as though Don wanted to do something, but she wasn't sure what exactly it was, or what was stopping him.

Don smiled. "Aaww thanks, Nuala. Answering a phone is really a no brainer. Now what's really hard is to deal with some of the idiots who are walking around the city. "
"Chivalry is always in my mind when I'm with a beautiful lady. You know, I'm hungry too. Let's have a meal. " Don raised an eyebrow when Nuala admitted that she hadn't had much to eat today.
" I thought that I made a pretty good owl." Don chuckled as he looked at the menu. He knew that the waitress was waiting for their order. " I will have a number 2 combo and the lady will have whatever she wants. And would you please throw in a good dinner wine with that?"
"Aww thank you. I think that I have snagged the best friend the city too. I am so glad to see you again. "Is that blushing that I see again? " Don was happy that he could make Nuala happy.

"Some of those guys aren't that tough. Specially when a one hundred and thirty five pound girl can take them down." Nuala laughed.
"I'm glad that it isn't. I like chivalrous men." She admitted, finally settling on something to eat. "I'll have the same thing." She nodded, handing the menu back to the waitress. She noted the raised eyebrow at her comment about skipping dinner. "Couldn't help it, you know me, when I get into something, I tend to get distracted..."
Bowing her head to hide the blushing, Nuala balled up her napkin and threw it at him. "Yes, you have an uncanny way of making me blush tonight." She chuckled, looking back up at him. It felt good to laugh, to feel like herself again. She'd forgotten how fun hanging out with Don was.

"Remind me never to get on your bad side." Don chuckled at the thought of wrestleing with Nuala. After dinner was ordered. Don blocked the napkin that was thrown at him. "I'll get you for that, detective." I'm glad that I make you blush. It means that you are happy. Yes, I know you. You are the most dedicated detective that I know. " Don noticed a jukebox in the corner. "Would you like to dance while we wait for our dinner? Don got up from h is chair and got the chair for Nuala. He took her hand as he walked to the juke box and put in a quarter. He found the perfect song. Don took Nuala's hand and walked to th middle of th dance floor and waited for the song to begin.

"You know I could take you down." She teased, grinning ear to ear. "In fact, we should see who reigns supreme in the gym." She challenged, wondering whether he would take the challenge.
"I'm so scared, I'm shaking in my heels." Nuala laughed as he threatened to get her. "Yes, I have to admit I'm happy again, I've smiled more since coming back to work than I have in a month." She admitted, hooking the loose bangs behind her ear again.
"Dinner and dancing. If I didn't know any better, I'd say we were on a date Detective Flack." She chuckled, accepting his hand and letting him lead her to the small dance floor. Well, it was more of a place cleared of tables. Smiling, she wondered what song he had chosen to dance to.

Don smirked at the offer of a challenge. " You're on. We will see who can take who down first and how fast. To make it interesting, what does the winner get?"
"Aaww, I won't hurt you too much. Mac would never forgive me putting his second best detective out of commision. But seriously, I'm glad that you are happy. I am happy too. " Don reached up and played with her loose bangs teaseing her slightly.
" It started out as a cup of coffee, but I guess it has turned into a dinner and dance date. Then th music started. I hope you don't mind a slow dance." Don put his arms gently around Nuala. It had been a long time since he had held her this close.
Oh my love, my darling I've hugered for your touch a long loney time. And time goes by so slowly and time can do so much. Are you still mine? I need your love. I want your love. God speed your love to me. As they danced Don leaned in closer to Nuala. Then his lips gently touched hers as he kissed her gently. His hand gently on her back. Don never wanted this momentto end.

"Hm, loser buys winner coffee for a week?" Nuala suggested, knowing it wasn't quite the best prize, but it was a start. "Aside from the pride of having defeated the other detective."
"I wouldn't hurt you that badly..." She teased, then pretended to think for a moment. "Oh! You mean you're the best detective Mac has... My bad, I thought you were the second." She chuckled, enjoying the feeling of Don playing with her bangs.
"I guess it did." She nodded in agreement. She tensed a little when he put his arm around her, but relaxed. She knew it was early to think about dating again, but it was Don, and she couldn't help but feel relaxed and comfortable with him. She listened to the music, moving slowly with Don. She was surprised though when he leaned in and kissed her. She knew Oliver would have wanted her to move on, and that he would have been happy that it was with a friend whom they both knew, but it still seemed a little odd. She hesitated a little, but kissed him back, almost as if testing the waters. She pulled back though, blushing. "Don..."
